EARLY LIFE

Chinenye Nworah, popularly known as Chichi Nworah, was born in Onitsha, Anambra State, Nigeria, and is originally from Nsukka in Enugu State. She is the second child in a family of four and grew up in a middle-class, comfortable home in Onitsha, where her parents ensured she attended the best schools available. She attended All Saints Primary School in Onitsha and Federal Government Girls College in Nsukka, Enugu State. Her upbringing was shaped by strong Christian values—her father was strict and trained her “in the way of the Lord,” while her parents modeled a beautiful, conflict-free marriage that influenced her own views on family and relationships. From a young age, Chichi showed a keen interest in the arts and performance, though she initially pursued a more conventional path in technology and media. She studied Computer Science at Lagos State University (after moving to Lagos with her husband) and completed a pre-Science programme at Nnamdi Azikiwe University. Her passion for storytelling and film later led her to the New York Film Academy for specialized training in filmmaking. She has described herself as someone who always knew she wanted to make an impact, blending her tech background with creative ambitions. This foundation in both business and the arts equipped her to navigate the Nigerian entertainment industry with a unique entrepreneurial edge.

CAREER

Chichi Nworah is a dynamic media entrepreneur, film producer, executive producer, and showrunner who has significantly impacted Nollywood and African storytelling. She began her professional journey in Nigeria’s media and technology sector, working in e-commerce with YSG Hubs, where she gained experience in business operations and digital consumer engagement. She later served as Content Acquisition Executive/Manager at IbakaTV (one of Nigeria’s early video-on-demand platforms) for about four years, handling rights acquisition, audience trends, and digital distribution before transitioning fully into content creation. In 2018, she founded Giant Creative Media (also referred to as Giant Creative Studios), a production company dedicated to premium African storytelling for global audiences. She is also the co-founder of Premium BoxOffice TV (PBO TV), a youth-focused Nollywood channel broadcast across Africa via StarTimes, and co-owns a pharmaceutical distribution company with her husband. Her entry into filmmaking started with producing So in Love in 2015, followed by numerous projects distributed on platforms like IrokoTV and ROK. She studied filmmaking at the New York Film Academy to hone her craft. Chichi has produced and executive-produced a string of successful projects, blending cinematic quality with mainstream appeal. Notable highlights include serving as showrunner and executive producer for the Netflix original series Shanty Town (2023), a gritty crime drama about power, corruption, and survival in Lagos that became one of the most-streamed Nigerian series on the platform (garnering over 27 million views in its first half-year). She also helmed the M-Net series Slum King (2023), which won Best M-Net Original Series at the 2024 Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards (AMVCA), and My Fairytale Wedding (2024), which won the same award in 2025. Other productions include Tough Love (2021, executive producer), Adaife (2019), and earlier works like Kala & Jamal (2016) and Jacob’s Mansion (2016). Upcoming or recent projects include Shanty Town 2, Omoge Suzzy, Blood and Rage, and Fairytale Wedding. PERSONAL LIFE

Chichi Nworah married her husband, Mr. Gabriel Nworah (who is from Anambra and grew up with her), a businessman, at the age of 19—just before gaining university admission. She has called this “my best decision,” crediting their shared church background in Onitsha and his supportive nature for their enduring partnership of over 20 years. They met when he was in his 20s, and he has been instrumental in her career, investing in her early films and co-owning businesses with her. Together, they have six children—four boys and two girls—ranging in age from about 18 to 6. Their eldest daughter (18 as of recent reports) studies at the SAE Film Institute in Dubai and has shown interest in filmmaking, having acted in films for ROK. Chichi emphasizes a strong family bond, describing her children as her “friends” and prioritizing quality time with them despite her demanding career. She and her husband maintain a harmonious relationship with no major conflicts, viewing their partnership as one where “two heads are better than one.” Her Christian faith plays a central role in her life—she often references God’s grace and guidance, describing herself on social media as “God’s project in progress.” She draws from her parents’ stable marriage and values like diligence and integrity, which she instills in her family.
