EARLY LIFE
Caleb Okereke started publishing as a poet at the age of sixteen in The African Writer in 2015. He performed poems on stages in Lagos.
CAREER
Caleb Okereke is the Founder and Executive Editor of Minority Africa and a Nigerian journalist. He has reported across Africa for CNN, Aljazeera, BBC, Foreign Policy, VICE News, The Guardian, Deutsche Welle, and NPR. He also served as a correspondent for Heidi News and worked with AFP. His work has been supported by grants from Google, Luminate Group, and the National Endowment for Democracy. He has delivered talks at Oxford University and Stanford University, and has been quoted and interviewed as a commentator by outlets including the Financial Times, Le Monde, BBC, El País, Semafor, the Australian Broadcasting Corporation, and Canadian Broadcasting Corporation. In addition to his journalism and scholarly research, Okereke is a creative writer and poet. His literary work, short fiction, and commentary have been featured on platforms like the Kalahari Review and TRUE Africa.
PERSONAL LIFE
Caleb Okereke holds a Master's in Communication from the University of Utah. He is currently a PhD student in Interdisciplinary Design and Media at Northeastern University in Boston, where he is also a Doctoral Fellow at the Institute for Information, the Internet and Democracy. His research examines how race operates as a governing technology within AI and digital media systems, tracing the afterlives of colonial regimes of labor, surveillance, and spectacle in contemporary platform infrastructures. His work shows how these infrastructures depend on marginalized and racialized labor to function, while shaping visibility and representation in ways that obscure that dependence.
