Biography

EARLY LIFE

Brenda Shey Elung was born in 1974 in Limbe, a coastal city in Cameroon's Southwest Region. She observes her birthday in July. Raised in Limbe, she grew up immersed in the region's rich cultural and maritime environment. She attended schools in Limbe and pursued undergraduate studies at the University of Buea in Cameroon, earning a BSc in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology between 1993 and 1997. Additionally, Elung completed advanced training through the Oxford Princeton Program, earning a postgraduate diploma in international oil trade and supply.

CAREER

Brenda Elung entered the Cameroonian film industry, commonly referred to as Collywood, in 2010. She produced and starred in the movie, 'Decoded', released in 2013. In 2017, her TV Series, 'SAMBA', which she produced, won the Official Selection award in the FESPACO awards of 2017, and Best Series award in the Ecrans Noirs awards in 2018. At the Golden Movie Awards Africa (GMAA) 2017 in Ghana, 'SAMBA' received three awards: Best Actress (Ade Kelly), Best Actor (Libota McDonald), and Best TV Series. She is the founder of Omega One Entertainment, a film production company. Elung has played a pivotal leadership role in the Cameroon Film Industry (CFI), serving first as Vice President before her election as Board Chair in 2021, making her the first woman to hold the position. She was reelected to the chairmanship in August 2022. Her filmography includes acting roles in 'Triangle of Tears' (2012), 'My Gallery' (2014), 'Decoded' (2014), 'Rumble' (2017), 'Samba' (2017), 'Apple for 2' (2019–2020), 'Half Heaven' (2022), 'Smokescreen' (2016), 'Kuvah' (2022), and 'My Image' (2018). Her production credits include 'Triangle of Tears' (2012), 'Decoded' (2014), 'My Gallery' (2014), 'Samba' (2017), and 'Apple for 2' (2019–2020). Prior to her film career, Elung worked for Société Nationale de Raffinage (SONARA), Cameroon's national oil refinery, for over 20 years, progressing to roles such as procurement manager and chief of crude oil stock management.

PERSONAL LIFE

In 2018, Brenda Elung received criticism on social media for wearing a Russian-designed dress at the AMVCA, with fans accusing her of not supporting home-based designers. She later wore a Limbe-made designer outfit in 2020 at the same event.
