Biography

She attended Obafemi Awolowo University, where she actively participated in the Dramatic Arts department despite not being formally enrolled in it. She served in various backstage roles including stage manager, costume manager, makeup artist, and consultant for student theatre projects. This hands-on involvement helped her build practical skills in theatre production. After graduation and youth service, she worked in radio presenting, ghost writing at a creative agency, and in television and radio. She began her creative journey with blogging, sharing observations about life.

Bolaji Gelax entered Nollywood fully in 2020 during the COVID-19 pandemic. She resigned from her previous job, secured a loan and funding from the COVID Relief Fund, and produced her first film Tangerine on a budget of approximately ₦2.5 million. She assembled the team quickly, collaborating with a writer she had previously worked with and friends for costumes and soundtrack. She has since worked primarily as a production manager on TV films and served as a cast chaperone. She is currently creatively producing her first feature film and working on other personal projects, including a short film titled I Love You To The Moon And Back, Baby and a documentary on fibroids titled Silent Tumours. Gelax is vocal about the undervalued role of producers in Nollywood, criticizing the perception that “anyone can be a producer.” She highlights the hustle involved in marketing, funding, and delivering quality productions, and aims to move into bigger cinema projects.

Bolaji Gelax describes herself as a multipotentialite — a jack of many trades — with a strong passion for filmmaking. She emphasizes pursuing happiness and fulfillment, stating she will not continue in roles or paths that do not bring her joy. She has openly discussed facing challenges such as depression and imposter syndrome after producing her first project, which she overcame on her own. She values people skills and genuine connections, which she applies in her production work. She is not highly active on social media for self-promotion and prefers focusing on the craft.
