Bola Akanbi

Bola Akanbi is an award-winning Nollywood director, writer, producer, and actor best known for his breakthrough short film Thorn, which won the Best Short Film or Online Video award at the 7th Africa Magic Viewers' Choice Awards (AMVCA). A graduate of Theatre Arts from the University of Lagos (UNILAG), Akanbi built his foundational skills through internships with prominent Nigerian production powerhouses, including Funke Akindele's Scene One Production and Kunle Afolayan's Golden Effects. His career accelerated significantly after becoming a finalist in the second edition of the Accelerate Filmmaker Project. This platform funded and facilitated the production of his critically acclaimed short film, Thorn. Akanbi has since compiled numerous directing, writing, and production credits across a variety of feature films, television shows, and shorts His notable projects include Thorn (2019) and The Best of Us. He has frequently partnered with ROK TV to direct platform titles like Empathy, A Wish For The Stars, and Rancor. His portfolio includes Jam, Just Before Christmas, Talking Stage, Desperadoes, Unexpected, Ere Ife Mi, Nightmare Employee, and Hard Knock.
