EARLY LIFE
Boakye D. Alpha states he didn’t have a "normal" life or family growing up, but was a "good kid" with good grades, hardworking, helped at home, learned to cook at a young age, and read a lot. He was a "troubled" teenager who stayed indoors and didn't talk much about his feelings. He found writing as an outlet to express bottled-up emotions.
CAREER
Boakye D. Alpha realized writing was a powerful tool for communication and advocacy. He began to write about social issues like mental health, social justice, and gender-based violence, which gave him purpose and direction. This led him to pursue a Bachelor of Arts in English at university. He has worked as a writer and editor, helping other young writers, and has published his own fiction and non-fiction work. In April 2023, he won the Tony Elumelu Storytellers Fund for a project bridging creativity and entrepreneurship in Ghana.
PERSONAL LIFE
Through writing, Boakye D. Alpha developed empathy and understanding for others, and discovered a sense of purpose and meaning. Writing has taught him to be vulnerable, brave, and to face fears, allowing him to connect with others and share his story. He emphasizes the importance of a strong support system, including family, friends, and mentors, for believing in and encouraging him.
