Muhammad Tanimu Akawu was born and raised in Jos, Plateau State, Nigeria. He is popularly known as Tanimu Akawu. He ventured into the Kannywood (Hausa film) industry and quickly gained recognition for his strong acting talent.

Tanimu Akawu is a popular Kannywood actor based in Jos, Plateau State. He is best known for playing villain roles in Hausa films, which earned him massive popularity. He started with supporting roles before becoming a go-to actor for antagonist characters. Some of his notable works include the film Dafa’i and Jarumin Maza, for which he won the 2013 MTN Kannywood Award for Best Villain of the Year. He is respected for his professionalism and has stated that he rejects roles that conflict with his religious beliefs, such as homosexual roles. He views acting as a serious profession meant to educate society by exposing bad characters.
