Biography
Baba Alapini was born on 16 February 1959 in Osun State, Nigeria. He developed a passion for performing arts from a young age. He started his acting career in 1977 as a stage actor and street jester, performing at social functions. He trained under late veteran filmmakers such as Akin Ogungbe and Ray Eyiwunmi. He also spent time in Arabic school before fully committing to theatre.
CAREER
Baba Alapini is a highly respected veteran Yoruba actor with over 45 years in the industry. He is best known for playing traditional priest (babalawo) and herbalist roles, which earned him the iconic stage name Alapini Osa. He has featured in numerous classic and modern Yoruba films including Apesin, SaworoNide (2025), Ago Kan Oru, Ijakumo, Eegun, Aiye, Koto Aye, Isese Lagba, and many more. Apart from acting, he is also a talented dancer, singer, producer, and director. He began with theatre groups in the late 1970s and transitioned into the video film era of Yoruba Nollywood, where he became a household name.
PERSONAL LIFE
Baba Alapini is married and has a wife who has been publicly seen with him. He is a father who has faced the painful loss of two sons. One of his sons died at age 40 after a long illness, which forced him to sell his cars to cover medical bills. He has spoken openly about the personal sacrifices and family challenges that came with his long career in acting. He is known for his deep traditional Yoruba roots.
