Biography
EARLY LIFE
Ayodele Elegba began drawing at age six, drawing his first portrait of Fela Anikulapo Kuti under his father’s guidance. After secondary education, he discovered animation, creating his first animation on paper soiled with groundnut oil in 1996. He studied Microbiology at Yaba College of Technology, Yaba, Lagos, and later acquired a postgraduate diploma in Public Relations and Advertising.
CAREER
Realizing microbiology was not his passion after graduation, Ayodele Elegba resigned his day job and founded SPOOF Animation, where he currently serves as CEO and Creative Director, leading a team of almost 40 full-time staff members. He is a self-taught animator, learning through online tutorials and collaborating with passionate artists. Elegba was inspired to create world-class animation films featuring Nigerian characters, like 'Hero Corps'. Recognizing the lack of animation schools in Nigeria, he co-founded SPOOF Academy to train young Nigerians. SPOOF Animation has produced various contents, including a work for TVC titled ‘When I grow up’, a co-production with a French company called ‘Area Daddy’, and a 13-episode project ‘Roli Tales’, along with several short films. He aims to complete a full season of Hero Corps and an animated feature film, aspiring to make SPOOF Animation the 'Disney of Africa' by telling local stories with international quality. He is also developing a Yoruba epic feature film.
