EARLY LIFE
Born in London, United Kingdom, Ayo Shonaiya grew up and was educated in Lagos, Nigeria. He studied film and television in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, and law in England at the University of Westminster. He is also an alumnus of the Nigerian Law School in Lagos.
CAREER
Ayo Shonaiya is a filmmaker and lawyer. He was also a music talent agent who managed many of Nigeria's artists, including Wasiu Ayinde Marshall (K1 De Ultimate), D'banj, Don Jazzy, Eldee the Don, Muna, and Akon. He is the founder of the entertainment and media management company The RMG Company in the UK and Nigeria, and Managing Partner at the Lagos-based law firm Shonaiya & Co. His film credits include writing, producing, directing, and acting in 'More Blessing', 'King of my Country', 'Spin', and 'Good Evening'. In 2021, he premiered his documentary 'Afrobeats: The Backstory', which later premiered worldwide on Netflix in 2022. He also worked in television, setting up and producing original programs for BEN Television in the UK, where he created shows like 'Intro' and 'Black Variety Show'. In 2010, he created the TV series 'United States of Nigeria'. He also returned to acting in 2014, appearing in Akon's music video for 'Feeling The Nigga'.
