CAREER

Okocha's professional football career began in Germany with Borussia Neunkirchen in 1990, followed by a move to 1. FC Saarbrücken and then Eintracht Frankfurt in 1991. He then played for Fenerbahçe in Turkey, where he also acquired Turkish citizenship under the name Muhammed Yavuz, scoring 30 goals in 62 appearances. In 1998, he became the most expensive African player when he joined Paris Saint-Germain for approximately £14 million, where he mentored a young Ronaldinho. He moved to Bolton Wanderers in 2002 on a free transfer, becoming a fan favourite and leading the team to the 2004 Football League Cup final. After leaving Bolton in 2006, he played for Qatar SC and then Hull City before retiring in 2008. He made his debut for the Nigeria national team in 1993, earning 73 caps and scoring 14 goals. He was part of the squad that won the 1994 African Cup of Nations and the 1996 Olympic gold medal-winning "Dream Team."
