Biography

EARLY LIFE

Ameze Imarhiagbe grew up in a creative household influenced heavily by her father, who had a passion for recording family activities, quizzes, and theatrical elements. She has described herself as a very creative person from an early age and knew acting was her path. Her journey into the industry began with national TV programs like Ripples (around 1989–1991), followed by Blossom and Fortunes.

CAREER

Ameze rose to prominence in the late 1980s/early 1990s with TV roles and became a Nollywood pioneer in the home video era. She gained significant recognition for roles in Tears For Love (Opa Williams) and especially her self-produced Flesh and Blood (1995, directed by Chico Ejiro), where she famously played identical twins. Other notable films include Narrow Escape, Suicide Mission, Dead End, I've Got Your Back, Heartbeat (1996), and more. She produced and acted, contributing to Nollywood's early growth. After relocating to the U.S., she stepped back from full-time acting but continued writing and producing on a smaller scale. She has attempted comebacks multiple times (e.g., 2010, 2014 with I've Got Your Back premiering in America featuring Ramsey Nouah). In recent years (around 2020 onward), she relaunched with The Chat With Ameze, interviewing Nollywood veterans and figures like Dolly Unachukwu, Regina Askia, RMD, and others. She remains based in the U.S. but stays connected to the Nollywood film industry.

PERSONAL LIFE

Ameze Imarhiagbe has kept much of her family background private. She has a daughter with actor Ramsey Nouah (from a past relationship; they remain on friendly terms). The daughter lives in the United States and is grown. She relocated to the United States in the early 2000s (over 20 years by 2020 interviews) and works there as a registered nurse in the healthcare industry while balancing entertainment pursuits. She has spoken about balancing roles as a mother and professional, crediting faith and discipline. She is not publicly known to be married and has described herself as God-fearing, loyal, non-judgmental, and committed to impacting others positively. She has addressed topics like LGBTQ rights with a stance of empathy and "live and let live."

Ameze is remembered for her emotional, crying roles and versatile performances. She has expressed pride in Nollywood's global growth and continues creative work alongside her healthcare career. She values perseverance and encourages younger talents not to give up.
