Biography
EARLY LIFE
Adeoye Adetunji was born to a family with creative talents, though he initially aspired to be an engineer. He studied Mathematics at the University of Ilorin. He experienced a challenging childhood, losing his mother at the age of two and his father before he graduated. To support himself, he engaged in drawing comics, painting, and creating departmental awards. His artistic journey began officially as an art director in his church's drama group, where he built props, costumes, and sets.
CAREER
At 200 level in university, Adeoye Adetunji shifted his focus from engineering to filmmaking, diligently studying various aspects of film, including Art Directing, DOP, and lighting. He is a renowned Nigerian stop-motion animator, actor, and filmmaker, known for his meticulous creative process, involving handcrafting miniature sets and puppets. He gained significant recognition for his stop-motion animation film 'Pa Aromire' (2023), which won Best Short Film at the Africa Magic Viewers' Choice Awards (AMVCA) and was created using an iPhone 13 Pro. He also served as an Art Director for numerous music videos, including Fireboy DML's 'Bandana' (featuring Asake) and 'New York City Girl', Boy Spyce's 'Folake', and Olamide's 'Hate Me'. His work also includes contributions to acclaimed productions like 'Introducing the Kujus 1 & 2' and three short films.
PERSONAL LIFE
Adeoye Adetunji is known as the 'DIY King' for his ability to create innovative solutions despite challenges. He produced his AMVCA-winning film 'Pa Aromire' as a DIY project, using his iPhone 13 Pro. He operates under the philosophy that 'Consistency is greater than inspiration,' a lesson he learned during his creative process. A significant challenge in his work is the lack of specialized materials for stop-motion animation in Nigeria, often requiring him to manipulate existing materials or create everything from scratch, which adds time and cost to his projects.
