EARLY LIFE
Nwakaego Ihenacho Ogbaro, professionally known as Ego, was born on October 11, 1974, in Imo State, Nigeria, to an Igbo father and a Yoruba mother. Her family relocated to Lagos, where she spent most of her formative years. She attended Central Primary School and Ikeja High School, GRA in Lagos.
CAREER
Ego joined Lagbaja's musical ensemble, initially the Colours band and later Africano, in 1994 as a backup singer, eventually becoming the lead female vocalist. She frequently toured internationally with the band. In 2007, she left Lagbaja's band to pursue a solo career and formed her own group, the Indigo Band (later Indeego). Her debut single, "I Believe," was released around 2007, followed by her debut studio album, "FirSTeps," in 2013. In 2008, she was signed as a Globacom ambassador. Ego made her acting debut in Nollywood in the 2020s, appearing as Iyabo Kuti in the 2023 Showmax series "Wura," and also featured in "Her Dark Past" (2024) and "The Yard" (2025).
PERSONAL LIFE
Ego married Victor Niyi Ogbaro, her manager and producer, in 2009. Victor Niyi Ogbaro passed away in August 2023.
