The Oyo State Government has joined forces with the KAP Film & Television Academy, founded by acclaimed Nigerian filmmaker Kunle Afolayan, to introduce an intensive 10-day residency program focused on filmmaking for young talents.

Themed "Emerging Stories," the residency is set to take place from October 6 to 15 at the KAP Film Village & Resort in Igbojaye, Oyo State—the same location where Netflix's hit series Aníkúlápó was produced.

Details of the initiative were shared in a statement provided to PUNCH Online on Thursday.

The program will deliver practical, hands-on training in essential filmmaking disciplines, including screenwriting, directing, cinematography, editing, and the business aspects of the film industry.

Participants will receive guidance from seasoned Nigerian cinema experts, such as Afolayan himself, Tunde Kelani, and Joke Silva.

Afolayan emphasized the program's broader goals, stating, "This residency is much more about technical skills; it’s about instilling the passion and discipline required to become a successful storyteller."

Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde highlighted how the collaboration aligns with the state's objectives, saying it "reflects our commitment to empowering youth and positioning Oyo State as a premier hub for creativity and innovation." He added that the partnership with KAP Academy "will significantly boost our efforts towards opening significant opportunities both for our young people and for the cultural economy of our state."

Ademola Ojo, the Oyo State Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, confirmed that youths selected from various parts of the state are eager and prepared to engage in the training.

Established in 2021, the KAP Film & Television Academy has already trained more than 40,000 students across Africa through its diverse offerings of courses, masterclasses, and residencies, solidifying its status as one of the continent's leading institutions for film education.
